Join us for Zoo Afterschool Program!
Join us for some zoo exploration, learning, and fun after your regular school day!
Our NEW Zoo Afterschool Program is available only for students at Franklin and Randall Elementary Schools.
Transportation from schools to the Zoo is provided. Participants must have their own transportation home at the end of each day.
Activities will include:
- Homework help
- Science-based inquiry activities
- Zoo tours
- Animal encounters
- Keeper chats
- Quiet and group reading
- Nature exploration
- Games
- Crafts
Days/Times:
Spring semester: Mon, Jan 3rd 2022 through Jun 9th 2022
Registration is by semester.
From school dismissal (2:27pm, 12:55 on Mondays) to
Pick-up at the Zoo between 4:45 and 5:45 pm
Daily snacks are provided.
Following current MMSD and Dane County protocol, all staff and students are required to wear masks, when indoors, when walking around the zoo, and when participating in animal encounters. We will take time as needed to spread out and have safe "mask breaks."
The goals of the Zoo Afterschool Program are to:
- Build scientific reasoning and inquiry skills
- Create an attitude of respect and care for wildlife
- Build empathy toward animals and other humans
- Create awareness of the environment and environmental problems and solutions
- Fill a need for quality aftercare options in our community
